Audiology at Hand Held Audio

Before any custom ear monitors or custom ear defenders can be manufactured, silicon impressions of the subject's ears need to be taken. It is extremely important to have this process done correctly, as it in turn determines the comfort of the moulds, the ambient noise reduction and the sound quality of the monitors.

THE PROCESS

The taking of impressions is a quick and painless procedure performed by a trained and qualified professional. The ear needs to be examined to determine whether the impression can be safely taken.

The most common reason for not being able to take the impression is wax build up in the ear canal. In this case the subject would then need to see a doctor, nurse or audiologist and have the wax removed. If all is clear a foam stop is put into the ear canal to seal the eardrum from the impression material.

A two - part silicon material is then injected into the ear. This stays in the ear for around 5 - 8 minutes whilst it cures. After this time the solid impression is removed, capturing the internal shape of the ear.

Impression taking can be done by Hand Held Audio at our premises or we can arrange London site visits. We include impression taking in the price of our custom hearing protection but it is an additional cost for our other custom products.
